Caprese Salad – Classic Italian Tomato Mozzarella Basil

Ingredients
  

  • 4 large ripe tomatoes (beefsteak or heirloom recommended)
  • 250 g fresh mozzarella (large ball or bocconcini)
  • 1 bunch fresh basil leaves
  • 45 ml extra virgin olive oil
  • 15 ml balsamic glaze (optional)
  • 2 g sea salt (or to taste)
  • 1 g freshly ground black pepper (or to taste)

  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Serving platter

Method
 

  1. Wash and slice the tomatoes into even rounds.
  2. Slice the mozzarella into similar-sized pieces.
  3. On a serving platter, alternate slices of tomato, mozzarella, and basil leaves.
  4. Continue layering until all ingredients are used.
  5. Drizzle with olive oil.
  6. Season with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  7. Optional: drizzle balsamic glaze on top before serving.

Notes

  • Use the freshest, ripest tomatoes for the best flavor.
  • Burrata can replace mozzarella for a creamier version.
